MainBreak

MainBreak™ is a water main leak isolation application. It is available as an extension for ESRI’s ArcView 8.3 GIS software.

Because MainBreak models and displays water main shutdown scenarios within ArcView, it is a practical, low-cost tool for water utilities that are serious about deploying this functionality in the field. Other water main leak isolation software products require the use of ArcEditor and are bundled with other modeling or editing functionality that you may not want or need. MainBreak is much less expensive to deploy on a per-seat basis because the specialized extension is a fraction of the cost of multi-purpose software and the cost for the underlying GIS license is only 25% of the cost of ArcEditor.

MainBreak lets you graphically select water mains, services, or hydrants and trace through the water network to locate and highlight the valves that need to be closed to shutoff the selected features. It also creates a notification list of all the customers affected by a shutdown. Critical water services (hospitals, processing plants, dialysis patients, etc.) and critical features (major valves) may be identified using the system. Users are notified if a trace includes critical services or features. Critical services are flagged on notification lists. MainBreak also provides the capability to toggle valves closed and determine which portions of the water network are effected. Finally, MainBreak captures a history of all water main leaks for use in pipe replacement analysis (see PIPES).
